History
Palmyra was platted in 1870. Its name commemorates the ancient city of Palmyra. A post office carried the name earlier than that, opening in 1862. History Nebraska holds a manuscript history of the village written in January 1925 by Inez Elizabeth Minney, who drew on the recollections of an earlier resident, along with a companion paper on territorial life in Otoe County written the following year.

Palmyra sits among a group of small south-eastern Nebraska towns, roughly seven miles north of Eagle, six miles west of Bennet and eleven miles west of Syracuse. Of the communities in Otoe County, it ranked third by population at the 2010 census.
Palmyra is a village platted in 1870 whose name commemorates the ancient Middle Eastern city of Palmyra. Located roughly ten minutes southeast of Lincoln along Nebraska Highway 2, Palmyra retains deep farming traditions and hosts an annual Old Settlers Picnic each June featuring a parade and family activities. The Palmyra Pioneer Cemetery is individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
