Wolbach is a village in Greeley County with 224 residents at the 2020 census. It became a town in 1887 when railroad service reached the site, and it sits close to the line between Greeley and Howard counties, with part of the community running south into Howard County.
The village is named for S. N. Wolbach of Grand Island, one of the original owners of the townsite, who at one time held a great deal of land around the spot where the town was laid out. Wolbach had come to Grand Island in 1874 and built a store there that grew into a regional department store; he later served as president of the First National Bank and represented Hall County in both houses of the Nebraska Legislature.
The village covers about seven tenths of a square mile in the Spring Creek valley and keeps a pool, a tennis court, a campground, churches and a school. Its two big dates are the Memorial Day bull ride and the Wolbach Days celebration and rodeo, which pull visitors in from around the state, and the village takes part in the multi town Junk Jaunt each fall.
