Ansley is a village in Custer County, Nebraska, settled in the summer of 1886 when the railroad reached the site, and situated at the junction of US Route 183 and Nebraska Highway 92, near Nebraska Highway 2. The town's name honors “a lady of that name” who purchased and invested heavily in lots in the newly platted community — though her further identity has not been established in surviving records. With a 2020 population of 459, Ansley is one of the larger incorporated towns in rural Custer County. Its notable natives include James F. Bonner, a molecular biologist; John Rhodes, a football player and coach; and Robert M. Wilkinson, a Los Angeles City Council member and lobbyist. Like its neighbors, Ansley serves as a small agricultural hub amid the rolling farmland of central Nebraska.
