Lodgepole Nebraska 69149

Lodgepole is a Cheyenne County village on Lodgepole Creek, founded July 7, 1867 as a Union Pacific Railroad work station and later formally platted in 1884 and incorporated in 1901.

The town and creek take their name from the long, straight poles Native Americans reportedly cut from creek-bank trees to build tepee frames. Lodgepole's population once peaked near 880 residents around 1925 before settling to its current size. Local legend holds that Theodore Roosevelt was a regular guest at the town's Nash Hotel while shipping cattle from his Dakota ranch.
