History
The Elsmere post office opened in 1899 and closed in 1992. The name probably came from Mrs. Humphry Ward's popular 1888 novel Robert Elsmere, and the precinct carries it too. Elsmere Public School was one of 17 rural districts merged into Valentine Community Schools in 2006.
