About Arabia
Arabia is the site of a former station and post office in eastern Cherry County, on the old Chicago & North Western line about 13 miles southeast of Valentine and 9 miles northwest of Wood Lake. Nothing of it is known to remain; the old railroad grade is now the corridor of the Cowboy Trail.
History
Arabia was a station on the Fremont, Elkhorn & Missouri Valley, later the Chicago & North Western. Railroad auditor Henry V. Ferguson of Sioux City named it for Arabia because the sandy soil reminded him of a desert; it proved fertile. In 1890 it had about 40 people. The post office ran from 1883 to 1919.
