Pleasanton, Nebraska

Pleasanton is a village in Buffalo County, in south-central Nebraska, along the Loup River. As of the 2020 census, the village had a population of 361 residents.

History

Pleasanton was platted in April 1890 when the Omaha and Republican Valley Railway, a branch line of the Union Pacific, was built through the area; the first regularly scheduled train arrived on March 1, 1890. The village was named for its location in the Pleasant Valley of the Loup River and was incorporated in 1894. Early residents faced repeated hardship, including a cyclone in 1890, three fires between 1892 and 1894, and major floods in 1924 and 1947. The community's historic 1890 railroad depot was later restored through local fundraising.
